Photoshop effects - Blur

Apologies about duplicating images in the last few comics. I know it's lazy but it's the only way I can get to bed before midnight.

Vend Dammit!

I love changing drawing styles.

Confession: I have done this. The vending machine at work has motion sensors at the bottom of the drop so that if nothing falls down, you get your money back. With enough abuse, you can get 2 for 1 deals on particular items. Bags of chips will get snagged by other bags and there's just something wrong with the cookie dispenser. And yes, I have gotten 2 of an item I would never have purchased by itself.

Hi, I'm Larry...

I'm getting shaggy and I've been wearing an old knit blue cap during the winter. Anyone that was raised by TV in the 80s knows what this is. Hell, it was even referenced on an episode of Tiny Toons.

In other news, I'm considering quitting my job and going for an MFA at MCAD. Any suggestions from anyone on this matter in terms of putting together a portfolio, paying for housing while going to school, etc, are gladly welcome.

Blue World contd.

Started out working on another comic idea and it turned into a Blue World comic. What a world. Two influences on the art in this one - 1) Simpsons and 2) Foxtrot by Bill Amend.

The original idea stopped at the character design for the priest character. I was trying to keep the art style of the first comic, but he kept looking like the guy from the gun shop. The conversation was much different and the use of the one word note cards was a new one. Anyway, I need to sleep.

Andrew, good luck with abandoning your flock in Philly and focusing more on your personal pursuit of happiness!

It's a sign.

A little something for my desk at work.

Edit: Okay, maybe this was a little inside. My boss called me into a conference room (because we all have cubicles) to discuss my training when she mentioned that there have been numerous complaints about my reading webcomics while at work. I pointed out that this is what I do on my lunch break, during which many people hover around my desk to give me stuff to do. So my boss suggested I display a sign while I'm at lunch so that there isn't any more confusion.

Duck Heads

Comic idea that I started too late on. It's tough to draw a duck that doesn't remind you of Daffy or Donald. I think I got close to what I want towards the bottom right.

And by pure accident, they seem to have formed the flying V.

I'm not there.

Saw I'm Not There at the Uptown Theater today. Outside, a parking meter was wearing a scarf.

rock god.

You know those guys who make youtube videoes of themselves lipsyncing songs while playing that piece of plastic that comes with the video game Guitar Hero?

I'm related to one.

Hate the hands on this one and the arms look detached somehow. like there's a joint that bends outward just past the shoulder, but hey, quick sketch.

Where should I file this?

I'll tell you where I'd like to stick it.

Work morale at an all time low.

Welcome to Blue World

I am a sucker for cheesey lines when it concerns the apocalypse.

Bubble Attack

Bubble Man! With the power of Bubbles!

Warm up sketch. Gave it a blue filter and decided to put a bubble around him. That's how the magic works, kids.

Coppers

Initial sketch in blue and then ink on top.

In color.

I think I like the blue lines under black better. Again, this is all digital.

Apple-Tini

Again, all digitial. I sketched in Photoshop using the tablet, turned the layer's opacity down to 50%, and inked on top of it. Not as pleased with this as the last one. I think I need to zoom in more before I begin drawing. As far as I can tell, it's the only way to get a smooth line other than keeping your hand as steady as a rock.

For Josh. Lord knows he's been begging me for a cartoon version of himself. Look forward to seeing it on the myspace account I'm not supposed to know about.

Snap

Spent a few hours just doodling with the tablet. I decided to save this one.

For Sammy

Just draw regardless of the outcome.

Sammy is one of the cooler cats I know, but lately I can't help but notice a distinctive odor as he walks by with his tail lifted high. Here's to a speedy recovery, my fine furry friend.

You're Icky

Ink, pencil, and random filters from Photoshop.

Okay, so the image isn't much to look at on its own, but add it to a gray toned sweatshirt and voila!

Preorders at the Hot Topic stores I sold these to have already bought me a small island next to Mel Gibson's. God bless teenagers who express their individuality through conformity.

Makeover

Damn, this turned out better than the original. For everyone looking for an easy way to get a great looking line with a tablet: FOR THE SAKE OF ALL ART, TURN THE AIRBRUSH ON. I took the original Hodge picture, reduced it's opacity so that I could see where my new lines were going, and drew on a layer over the image, which is why it looks so similar. And yet not?

Getting closer to what I want out of Hodge. I think I need to take that neck down and give that jacket a little more weight. If you haven't noticed yet, I'm sort of basing this guy off Mark Oliver Everett.

Meet Hodge

I don't know why I named him Hodge. The name seemed to be rolling around in my head. I'm sure I heard it recently. A character from a sci fi movie or somethingorother. I need him to be a little more gritty for what I have planned for him.

I thought I could trick my body into getting more sleep by waking up later. Instead, it responds by making me stay up later.
