IF: Rescued

Another submission for Illustration Friday.

These two gentlemen are based on my old bosses from when I worked at a grocery store as a wee lad. The one on the left, I believe, got addicted to crack and the one on the right had the foulest sense of humor I've ever encountered. Bless'em both.

Bill Murray

I don't mess around with color too often, but this was a nice warm up project for a Sunday afternoon.

Real Elvish Rope

An exercise I give myself is going back over old sketches and inking them in an attempt to correct bad habits.

I love the Lord of the Rings movies, but sometimes, you just want to smack Frodo for every condescending word he says to Samwise Gamgee.

Warm Ups

I like to sketch and ink faces quickly to warm up. These are not all from one sitting.

3 years of keeping an irregular blog irregular

I'll try to do something more than this; treat this anniversary right. But Cold Ramen is now in its 3rd year on the web. The best part of this past year, artwise, was learning to ink with a brush.

And of course, a Happy St. Patrick's Day to you all.

nobody wins. ask caesar.

Closer to my original concept. The lines are from Charles Bukowski's "The German Bar."

Ask Caesar

The lines are taken from a Charles Bukowski poem title "The German Bar." I love Bukowski's poetry, especially the ones that seem to sock you in the stomach at the end. They're like a Vonnegut novel contained in a single page.

Not your typical image of Caesar, I know. For some reason, I kept picturing a heavier man than the gaunt image of Caesar with a hang dog expression. Stephen Fry seemed an apt fit.
